The Sales function
Sales at Reason is responsible for building trust with prospective customers, identifying how our products, services, and expertise in e-commerce operations can dramatically improve operational processes and establish long-term agreements that deliver measurable value to customers.
Provide personalized contact and support to prospects’ discovery of our products and services as we develop a detailed understanding of their business.
Earn trust by demonstrating subject matter expertise, positioning Reason's products and services to respond to needs directly identified.
Identify key stakeholders, the value they will receive, and align interests by navigating 3P processes, aligning interests and commitment to the program.
Lead the negotiation and execution of contracts, clearly identifying the role and responsibility of Reason Automation and our customers to serve as the foundation for value realization.
Deliver on our commitments by earning prospects’ business, providing transparency as qualified prospects move through close to launch.
What you’ll be doing
The Account Executive role is a leadership-level, prospect-facing role with single-threaded responsibility for achieving sales targets at Reason Automation. As a startup, we need our leaders to operate at every altitude: everything from strategy to pricing to development to customer support. We expect this role to start at 90/10 individual to managerial, with the balance changing as the scope of the business evolves.
1. Qualifying incoming active leads in the United States. Engage with incoming active leads in the United States. While some Account Executive roles assign named accounts, often without knowing whether those accounts are qualified prospects, we assign active prospects curated through content marketing, digital advertising, and affiliate programs.
During the onboarding period, existing team members will provide initial positioning of Reason Automation's products and services, product demonstrations, etc.
Other Reason Automation leaders, including the founders, will support you to ensure we understand the prospects' needs and present our products and expertise. You will transition from joining the discovery call to leading the discussion as you learn more.
You will track prospect engagement, identify friction points, and intentionally test new processes, mechanisms, and tools to increase conversion.
2. Earning a prospect’s trust. Engaging prospects and earning their trust requires a strategic approach that combines authenticity, value, and personalized communication. Begin by understanding your prospects' unique needs and challenges, showing genuine interest in their success. Provide valuable insights and solutions tailored to their situation, demonstrating your expertise and commitment to helping them achieve their goals. Transparent communication is crucial; be honest about what you can deliver and set realistic expectations. Building trust takes time, so maintain consistent follow-up, showing you are reliable and invested in a long-term relationship. Creating meaningful connections and delivering exceptional value enables you to engage prospects and earn their lasting trust effectively.
Lead effective business and technical discovery mechanisms to align Reason Automation's products and services with customers' desired business outcomes. Provide prospect feedback to inform product roadmap decisions.
Develop compelling value-engineering financial models that quantify business benefits to maximize win rates and secure budgets.
Demonstrate a strong product, vertical, and use-case knowledge to build trusted relationships across customer levels and functions.
3. Winning new customers. You will identify clear objectives and be prepared with relevant data and insights to support the value offered. Clearly articulate the value and benefits of your proposal, and use persuasive techniques to build consensus. As you near the closing stage, summarize the agreed-upon terms and ensure mutual understanding. Approach the negotiation with a collaborative mindset, seeking a win-win outcome that benefits both sides. Listen actively and empathetically to the other party's concerns and objections, addressing them with thoughtful, well-reasoned responses. Be flexible and open to compromise, but also know your limits and be prepared to stand firm on key issues.
Discover champions within accounts to progress deals. Develop an understanding of alternative solutions to the most pressing issues business owners face and know how to advocate for the value offered by competitors and agencies.

The Marketing function

What you’ll be doing
Reason is a small SaaS startup where you will get more direct exposure to marketing, sales, and technical processes than a corporate intern. This comes at a cost: you will have less structure, guardrails, documentation, and peer support than you might receive with a big corporation. The right candidate will be excited by the chance to do “real work” that impacts our customers and near-term business prospects. As a Digital Marketing Intern, that means advancing many different demand generation activities, from content creation to campaign optimization, while helping report on and analyze the results.
1. Marketing campaign preparation and analysis. You will help drive our outbound marketing activities in partnership with third-party agencies, while reporting on results to other Reason team members.
Audit outbound campaign target lists, by researching recipients and adding contact/company exclusions
Help our marketing agency monitor organic channels like LinkedIn and YouTube for engagement opportunities, e.g. threads worth replying to
Update + communicate weekly traffic + lead gen reports to marketing stakeholders
2. Sales enablement. Help our sales team move deals forward throughout the pipeline.
Create mechanisms for tracking and surfacing 30-day trial account expirations to the sales team.
Help launch + maintain onboarding automation workflows in Hubspot.
Work with the sales + product teams to identify and implement improvements to our demo follow-up strategy, such as pitch deck updates.
3. Content creation & distribution strategy. Identify opportunities/gaps in our current content suite and work with agency partners + Reason team members on improvements.
Work with our agency partners to create and amplify thought-leadership content (e.g. CEO interviews, white papers)
Work with the customer success team to overhaul our self-service Help Center to (1) update content for accuracy, and (2) prepare for product line expansion

Candidates should have at a minimum:
Clear, professional communication. You understand how to shape messages for different audiences, whether that audience is a potential customer or our CEO. Since you will be helping write marketing copy, you should have a fluent command of business-oriented American English.
1 year of advanced marketing coursework and/or work experience. You should be familiar with digital marketing basics: popular channels, how to measure them, how they differ from each other. You should be comfortable with marketing data and basic statistics.
Leadership experience. You have led a group of people to complete a project and been responsible for the outcome.

This is a 3-month contract, internship-level position intended for current undergraduate students or recent graduates. Implementation Specialist (FILLED)

Our Customer Success team is responsible for helping new customers get started with our service, managing data quality & accuracy, and investigating technical issues both independently and with our development team. As an Implementation Specialist, you will work directly with our customers to solve problems as they onboard and use our service. Reason is known for world-class onboarding and support, and you will be instrumental in delivering on that promise for our customers.
What you’ll be doing
1. Onboarding new customers
We invest heavily in helping our new customers get started successfully: answering their questions, providing helpful tools and information, and resolving any issues whether or not they are driven by Reason. You will help new customers throughout their onboarding process, from provisioning account access, to helping connect their database to common software.

2. Running Proactive data Quality Processes
Data quality and timeliness are our top two drivers of customer satisfaction, and of complaints when they fail. Reason works hard to proactively detect and mitigate problems before customers notice. We use multiple software-driven quality assurance and audit processes to detect errors or issues. You will help run these processes, report on the results, and help resolve or escalate issues as needed.
Audit newly-created customer databases for completeness and accuracy, using proprietary tools & systems
Document and manage the resolution of issues in Jira
Communicate with customers about status and resolution of issues affecting their data
Help compose and manage broader customer communications about widespread issues
3. Helping triage and Respond to customer problems
As a startup we expect all our leaders to become knowledgeable about our product and the Amazon data ecosystem, ready to help current and potential customers. You will be an initial point of contact for inbound customer contacts in Hubspot, responsible for responding to customers and setting expectations promptly, while performing initial research and triaging issues as needed to other team members. Solving customer problems is always a team effort at Reason and you will have access to everyone at the company as needed to help deliver solutions.
Manage customer communication in Hubspot: responding to inbound customer requests, assigning conversations & tickets to other team members, tracking ticket progress to ensure all issues are resolved within service level agreement (SLA) timeframes.
Perform preliminary research on an issue by validating/replicating the problem, documenting the results in Jira tickets, and escalating to technical teams as needed
4. Analytics Platform Management
Reason builds & manages custom analytic platforms for Enterprise customers, built primarily in Power BI. As an Implementation Specialist you will help 1-2 Enterprise customers manage these platforms as the primary support contact.
Help ensure consistent operation of all client dashboard data operations, e.g. by monitoring daily data refresh status and summarizing issues for the customers
Add new reports to the platforms using established/documented processes: loading data sources into a template, publishing to Power BI Service, setting up refresh automation
Respond to reports of platform-specific technical issues, looping in other customer success & technical team members as needed to resolve them

B2B Marketing Intern (Summer 2022) (FILLED)
Reason Automation (reasonautomation.com) is a data processing & automation start-up specializing in Amazon analytics and reporting. We are a very small company with a growing omnichannel marketing & sales organization. We prefer to be subtle, earning attention through excellence and helpfulness vs. volume and repetition. We are seeking someone with a similar attitude, creative and formal writing skills, heaps of curiosity, and interest in B2B marketing to join us for an educational & productive summer internship.
What you’ll be doing
1. CREATING MARKETING & SALES ENABLEMENT CONTENT
Our clients are brands that sell on Amazon, including major global brands you have at home. Unlike B2C companies we don’t rely on display advertising on Instagram; our primary channels are SEO, email, and LinkedIn. You will learn what it means to build the brand of a small B2B company and how we find customers. You will leverage that knowledge to create educational guides, case studies, and other content that helps our customers—then amplify it through marketing channels.
Collaborate with our content writer and CEO to write, edit, and help publish a variety of marketing content including: email templates, LinkedIn posts, website copy, presentations, customer case studies, ads, video captions, and more.

Create and update how-to guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other documentation to reflect new changes and help train other team members

As a Sr. Software Engineer (full stack), you will help us drive engineering best practices and innovate for customers in addition to shipping code and features.
What you’ll be doing
1. Data Operations & Quality (30%)
Providing accurate, timely data is Reason’s core business. You will be responsible for helping improve, expand, and support all back-end systems that power our Amazon data service.
Maintain and improve systems for data extraction, transformation, and delivery
Serve as a primary resolver for technical escalations
Recommend ways to programmatically reduce service costs
2. New Product Development (40%)
We have big plans to expand beyond our core pipeline service in 2022. You will be the primary engineer responsible for building & launching new customer-facing products, e.g. self-service management interfaces and reporting dashboards.
Design & launch new data & analytic products for Amazon vendors & sellers
Engineer tools that make our internal team members more efficient
3. Engineering Leadership (30%)
As a senior member of the technical team, you will play a critical role in driving engineering best practices within the team.

Responsible for improving onboarding efficiency for new technical team members

Sr. Customer Success Manager (FILLED)

Our Customer Success team is responsible for helping new customers get started with our service, managing data quality & accuracy, and investigating technical issues both independently and with our development team. As a Customer Success Manager, you will work directly with our customers to solve problems. This is a top priority for Reason and you will have access to the full resources of the company, including technical resources, access to executives, software, and the right to ask for more.
What you’ll be doing
1. Onboarding new customers
We invest heavily in helping our new customers get started successfully. You will be the primary person responsible for our customer onboarding programs.
Help new brands, sellers, and agencies set up data service
Communicate onboarding needs with tech, sales, and any other stakeholders
Ensure customers are aware of the process, timelines, and next steps
Help onboarded customers start using their new data, and navigate Reason resources
2. Helping triage and solve customer problems
As a startup we expect all our leaders to become knowledgeable about our product and the Amazon data ecosystem, ready to help current/potential customers. You will lead these efforts on behalf of the company, serving as a primary point of contact for solving customer problems.
Manage customer communication in Hubspot
Perform preliminary research on an issue by validating/replicating the problem, documenting the results in Jira tickets, and escalating to technical teams as needed
Manage service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure we’re meeting customer promises
3. Running data & system audit processes
Quality and timeliness are our top two drivers of customer satisfaction, and of complaints when they fail. You will run data audit and quality assurance processes that help our customers.
Audit newly-onboarded customer databases using proprietary tools & systems
Manage uptime and service alerts for client reporting environments
Report on daily uptime and other service alerts
Research data issues as they arise and escalate as needed
